Board Member, Mentor & Internship Opportunities

SistaH of SurvivaL offers meaningful opportunities for Board Members, Mentors, and Interns who are passionate about making a real impact in the lives of women and families affected by domestic violence and recidivism.

​

Our internship program is designed to provide hands-on, real-world experience within the nonprofit sector. Participants will gain valuable insight, strengthen their professional and leadership skills, and actively contribute to community-centered initiatives that promote healing, empowerment, and transformation.

​

Interns, Mentors, and Board Members alike will engage in practical, situational learning experiences that prepare them for both personal growth and professional advancement while serving with purpose.

​

We offer three internship sessions each year:

  • Spring: January – May

  • Summer: May – August

  • Fall: September – December

Position Overview

​

We are seeking a passionate, organized, and mission-aligned Director of Business Operations II to support and strengthen our internal operations while gaining leadership experience within a growing nonprofit. This role is ideal for an emerging leader, mentor, or board-track candidate looking to contribute meaningfully while developing expertise in nonprofit operations, financial stewardship, and program support.

Working closely with the CEO and leadership team, this individual will assist in managing operational systems, coordinating resources, supporting compliance efforts, and ensuring program delivery aligns with organizational goals and funder expectations.

​

Key Responsibilities

  • Support day-to-day operational functions to ensure efficiency across programs and services

  • Assist with budget tracking, expense monitoring, and basic financial reporting

  • Help maintain compliance with grant requirements and organizational policies

  • Coordinate resources including volunteers, interns, and program materials

  • Contribute to process improvements, systems organization, and workflow optimization

  • Support preparation of reports and documentation for leadership and board review

  • Background or interest in Business Administration, Nonprofit Management, or related field

  • Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills

  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines

  • Experience with administrative support, operations, or program coordination (preferred but not required)

SistaH of SurvivaL is seeking a creative, consistent, and mission-aligned Business Marketing Executive to support the organization’s marketing, outreach, and community engagement efforts. This role is ideal for an emerging leader, mentor, or board-track candidate who is passionate about storytelling, social impact, and building a strong digital and community presence. The Business Marketing Executive will work closely with the Director of Business Operations and leadership team to strengthen brand visibility, maintain a consistent social media presence, and expand partnerships through strategic outreach and speaking engagements.

 

Key Responsibilities

Marketing & Social Media Presence

  • Maintain consistent and engaging content across social media platforms (Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, etc.)

  • Assist in developing and executing marketing campaigns aligned with organizational goals

  • Create and schedule content using tools such as Canva and social media platforms

  • Monitor engagement and recommend strategies for growth and visibility

 

Content Development & Communications

  • Develop and distribute public education and awareness materials

  • Assist with newsletters, promotional content, and campaign messaging

  • Support storytelling efforts that highlight impact, programs, and client success

 

Event Support & Execution

  • Assist in planning, promoting, and executing community awareness events

  • Provide on-site or virtual support during events as needed

  • Participate in meetings, trainings, and speaking engagements

 

Qualifications

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills (English required)

  • Tech-savvy with working knowledge of social media platforms and trends

  • Proficient in Canva or similar design tools (required)

  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Publisher) and general internet use

  • Self-starter with the ability to work independently and collaboratively

  • Highly organized with strong time management skills

  • Reliable and consistent with content creation and communication

  • Passion for social impact, particularly supporting women affected by domestic violence

  • Ability to attend in-person events in the Washington, DC area

The Volunteer Coordinator will play a key role in strengthening the organization’s volunteer infrastructure while ensuring a positive and impactful experience for all volunteers.

 

Key Responsibilities

Volunteer Recruitment & Onboarding

  • Assist with the recruitment, screening, and onboarding of volunteers

  • Support the development and delivery of volunteer orientation and training

  • Ensure volunteers understand their roles, expectations, and impact

 

Volunteer Management & Coordination

  • Maintain accurate volunteer records, schedules, and communications

  • Coordinate volunteer assignments for programs, events, and outreach activities

  • Serve as a point of contact for volunteer support and engagement

 

Volunteer Engagement & Retention

  • Help develop and implement volunteer recognition and appreciation initiatives

  • Foster a positive and inclusive volunteer experience

  • Track engagement and recommend strategies to improve retention

 

Program & Event Support

  • Coordinate volunteer participation in community events and organizational activities

  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)

  • Experience with volunteer management systems (preferred but not required)

Fundraising & Campaign Support

  • Assist in planning and executing fundraising campaigns and initiatives

Grant Research & Proposal Support

  • Conduct research on prospective donors, grant opportunities, and funding sources
